The best value in North Jersey and it's not particularly close. 27 holes across three nines - the Ridge Course is the one to play. Long, demanding, and as well-maintained as anything in the region at this price point. Weekend rates that stay under $60 for a course this good make no sense, which is exactly why you should book early before everyone figures it out. One of the best public layouts in all of New Jersey.
Originally part of Essex County Country Club, Hendricks Field underwent an ambitious 2023 restoration that brought the 1927 Charles Banks design back to life. Improved tee boxes, abundant fairway bunkers, and tricky greens including a horseshoe-shaped ninth that will confuse your read every single time. Legend has it Bobby Jones called the 15th one of the toughest holes he ever played. At rates between $60 and $80, this is as much golf history as you'll find at a public course in New Jersey.
36 holes run by Morris County - two courses, both worth your time. The Red/Gold combination is the move. Low rates, solid conditions, friendly staff. Morris County residents should get the golf card - it pays for itself in a weekend. A true North Jersey gem that deserves more attention than it gets.
Two 18-hole courses with a piece of American history next door - George Washington camped at the adjacent Dey Mansion in 1780. Rates run $52 to $62 which makes this one of the best county-run values in Passaic. Driving range included for pre-round warmups.
The most scenic round in Bergen County. Darlington winds through the Ramapo Mountain foothills with tree-lined fairways and dramatic elevation changes that will humble anyone who shows up thinking county course means easy. The setting feels nothing like a typical suburban layout. Bergen County Golf Card holders get discounted rates.
Nine holes at a price that borders on embarrassing. Perfect for after work. Bring a friend, play it twice, and you've had a full afternoon of golf for less than the cost of most North Jersey daily-fee rounds.
140 acres at the top of the Meadowlands. Overpeck Creek bisects holes 5, 6, 7, and 9 on the front nine alone. Wind off the Meadowlands adds a layer of challenge the scorecard doesn't warn you about. Getting back to the clubhouse with the same ball you started with is a genuine accomplishment.
